Defensive Tactics for Aggressive/Combative Subjects

Overview
Whether working a patrol assignment or performing a SWAT mission, police officers need to be proficient in unarmed arrest and control tactics. The UMAA’s Defensive Tactics program addresses appropriate responses during unarmed physical confrontations with aggressive/combative subjects – including take-downs, ground fighting and strikes.

A special emphasis is placed on ground fighting skills in this course because more than half of all suspect/police officer altercations end up on the ground. Additionally, officers will be trained in the mental skills that are necessary for a more complete understanding of the following areas of defensive tactics:

This course also covers room-entry drills for confronting unarmed, combative subjects. Students will apply these skills in reality-based, hands-on training scenarios.
